Head of Bioinformatics Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Bioinformatics to lead our bioinformatics core support team. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional leadership and expertise in planning and developing bioinformatics analyses.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics and computational biology, with experience in leading and managing teams. You will be responsible for crafting sequence analysis pipelines, overseeing the analysis of sequencing outputs, and guiding the development of customized analysis pipelines.
You will work closely with colleagues, stakeholders, and scientific communities within the Norwich Research Park to drive the creation of tailored systems to meet our current and future needs as a world-class scientific institute.
Key Responsibilities- Crafting sequence analysis pipelines for bacterial genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomic datasets
- Overseeing the analysis of sequencing outputs, including short and long read data from platforms like Illumina, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore
- Guiding the development of customized analysis pipelines
- Coaching, training, and effective communication with team members
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Ph.D. in Computing Science or a related field, along with extensive computational expertise in UNIX, Illumina, and other bioinformatics programs. Proficiency in cloud computing and specialized knowledge of molecular biology related to sequence generation are imperative.
Substantial experience in computational work within biological sciences, along with operating various sequencing platforms, is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to lead and swiftly establish productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, are paramount for this position.
