Job Overview

Bangor University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Supply Nursery Nurse to join our team at Tir na n-Og. As a key worker, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and education to children aged birth to five years.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging activities tailored to the children's age range and abilities.
  • Support staff and engage in a collaborative team environment.
  • Work with parents and carers of children with special needs to ensure seamless integration.
  • Maintain accurate records of children's progress and achievements.
  • Liaise with parents and carers to provide updates and support.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and other activities to enhance professional development.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the setting.
  • Assist with domestic tasks and contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Work closely with the manager and staff team to ensure the project's philosophy is upheld.
  • Record accidents and incidents, ensuring the manager is informed before sharing with parents.
  • Be aware of children's needs to ensure their safe collection by someone known to the setting.
  • Respect confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Develop your role within the team, particularly in the key worker position.

Specific Childcare Tasks

  • Prepare and complete activities tailored to children's developmental stages.
  • Ensure mealtimes are a positive and social experience.
  • Provide comfort and care to ill children.
  • Maintain a high-quality environment that meets individual children's needs.
  • Uphold the setting's standards and promote the safeguarding of children.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertake other duties as deemed necessary by the senior nursery nurse/manager.
  • Participate in performance reviews and developmental activities.
  • Comply with the University's equality policies and statements, Dignity at Work and Study Policy, and Welsh Language Scheme.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for yourself and others.
  • Comply with relevant legal and financial policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential:

  • Level 2 in childcare qualification.
  • Positive approach to continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Awareness of health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace.

Desirable:

  • Completion of safeguarding awareness course.
  • First aid certificate.
  • Child protection certificate.
  • Health and safety certificate.
  • Food hygiene certificate.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential:

  • Previous experience caring for or working with children aged birth to five years.
  • Understanding of the foundation phase standards.
  • Knowledge of the national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality childcare.
  • Positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through team work and training opportunities.

Desirable:

  • Interest in the care, learning, and development of young children.
  • Understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.

Skills/Abilities

Essential:

  • Good organisational record and planning skills.
  • Good communication skills with children, colleagues, advisors, and parents/carers.
  • Patient and empathetic with children and adults.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Punctuality.

Desirable:

  • Flexibility, occasionally working hours may be changed.
  • Able to work in small teams.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh.

Other

Essential:

  • Prepared to undertake other duties as deemed necessary by the senior nursery nurse/manager.
  • Flexible and available to work at short notice.
