The Financial Operations Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Accounts Payable function at Halfords. This involves working closely with the team to ensure that suppliers are paid correctly, on time, and in full, minimizing disruptions to the supply chain and maintaining accurate financial records.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and colleagues alike. They will be responsible for processing purchase invoices, raising purchase orders, and resolving queries arising from the Accounts Payable ledger.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong commercial relationships with suppliers to avoid service impact
  • Purchase invoice processing and payment allocation
  • Raising purchase orders and goods receipting of invoices
  • Resolution of queries arising from the Accounts Payable ledger
  • Monthly reconciliation of supplier statements and investigation of spurious balances
  • Analysis of vendor usage, including OTV and procurement card transactions
  • Payment processing and query resolution
  • Data preparation for Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Procurement card transaction coding and journal preparation
  • Investigation of historic balances across the ledger
  • Clearing bank clearing accounts and processing journals
  • Expenses review, approval, and audit
  • Company card and fuel card review and support
  • Property Costs support as required

The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work to deadlines. They will be comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment and will be able to demonstrate a willingness to support other team members.

Key skills required include:

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent team skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Good knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Experience of SAP and/or Accounts Payable would be advantageous
  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively
