Job Overview

This team provides 24-hour emergency mental health assessments for service users who have presented to A&E or have been admitted to the medical wards. The team offers short-term, time-limited input and has a liaison role. The team is based at Christopher Home, Royal Albert Infirmary, Wigan, and has been operational since 2013.

Mental Health Urgent Response Team

This is an established team based at Christopher Home, Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. It is the single point of referral/access for all service users referred to Adult Mental Health Services. The team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Undertake assessments of referrals/admissions to the service
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations
  • Provide management in treatment-resistant and complex presentations
  • Assess and manage risk, including vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety, and risk of harm to others
  • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams, including external partners
  • Lead clinical decision-making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care
