Job Description

As a Legal Officer in the Royal Air Force, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the organisation within the frameworks of rules and regulations. You will advise military commanders and staff on domestic and international humanitarian law, as well as provide legal guidance on various areas of law, including military law, air law, employment law, and European law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on domestic and international humanitarian law
  • Provide legal guidance on military law, air law, employment law, and European law
  • Develop and draft legislation related to the Armed Forces
  • Act as Legal Adviser to service inquiry panels
  • Advocate for the defence or prosecution at Courts Martial and Service Civilian Courts
  • Advising military police and commanders on criminal investigations and evidence gathering
  • Advising personnel on the Armed Forces Act 2006 and related procedures
  • Providing legal training across the RAF
Requirements
  • Membership of the Bar of England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland, with completed pupillage
  • Admission to the Roll of England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland
  • At least 18 months post-qualification experience
  • GCSEs at a minimum of Grade C/4 or Scottish National 5's at a minimum grade of C in English Language and Mathematics
