Job SummaryWe are looking for an exceptional teacher who can lead our Geography department and ensure continued delivery of excellent teaching and learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the academic progress, behaviour and welfare of pupils, and reporting regularly to the Deputy Headteacher and Head of Section regarding progress/issues in the department.
Key Responsibilities- To be an excellent classroom practitioner ensuring the maintenance of standards, including differentiated approaches as appropriate in meeting the full range of pupil needs and aiding pupils understanding of the subject across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
- To provide outstanding Pastoral Care
- To ensure that the subject specification and related Schemes of Work are prepared, followed and regularly revised and are fit for purpose for the 21st century
- To attend meetings, where appropriate, to provide occasion for consultation and discussion of matters relating to Geography and its policies
- To consistently and effectively use a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and classroom management to include establishing good behaviour management in the classroom
- To promote, develop and monitor Geography teaching and learning strategies in the classroom using assessment to develop learning needs
- To write the Annual Departmental Report according to an agreed format, including analysis of examination results, departmental practice and outward facing engagement
- To oversee and teach the work for public examinations
- To monitor the setting, marking and moderation in line with school homework policy and internal exams
- To ensure that a strategy is in place to identify the needs of children with SEN/Spld and to meet the needs of the most able pupils Assess record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils, ensuring that departmental reporting is in line with department and school policy
- To ensure that appropriate examinations and assessment strategies are implemented
- To ensure that the reporting policy of the school is implemented, conveying accurate and meaningful information
- To develop the implementation of ICT in teaching and learning in Geography as appropriate
- Well-qualified and an excellent teacher
- Able to provide excellent Teaching and Learning
- Able to use assessment to record, track and report pupil progress
- Able to uphold and promote the school's spiritual values and ethos
- Support and contribute to the school's responsibility for the welfare and safeguarding of pupils
- To play a full part in the life of the school community, including Form Tutor, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and pupils to follow this example
- Ensure the school guidelines have been consulted and followed
