We are seeking a skilled Environmental Health Officer to join our team on a six-month contract, with the possibility of extension.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to work from home or a Council Office, with a balance of field work and office-based tasks.

The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating Statutory Nuisance complaints, responding to Planning and Licensing consultations, and carrying out Environmental Permit inspections.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Investigating Statutory Nuisance complaints using standard procedures and equipment.
  2. Responding to Planning and Licensing consultations and hearings.
  3. Carrying out Environmental Permit inspections and enforcement activities.
  4. Liaising with colleagues in the Environmental Protection Team and other Somerset colleagues on policy and procedural matters.

Desirable skills and experience include:

  1. Experience in Statutory Nuisance investigations and Planning and Licensing consultations.
  2. Environmental Permitting inspection and application experience.
  3. Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with customers and colleagues.
  4. Ability to balance reactive and proactive work simultaneously.
