We are seeking an exceptional Government Communications Specialist to support the Secretary of State in effectively communicating policies and priorities to various audiences through diverse channels.

Job Summary

This senior role involves providing strategic media advice to the Secretary of State and overseeing major announcements, visits, and events. As Press Secretary, you will be responsible for establishing strong relationships with journalists, briefing them on key health and social care policies to shape the news agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop close working relationships with the Secretary of State, special advisors, private office, and senior officials to shape media strategies and provide trusted advice.
  • Report to the Deputy Director, Head of Media Relations, and contribute to the development of strategic direction for the wider team.
  • Brief the Secretary of State on major health and social care policies ahead of media appearances and interviews.
  • Participate in high-level meetings to influence decision-making and drive effective communication.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in media relations, with a strong track record of building effective relationships and contacts.
  • Ability to rapidly brief on complex issues, presenting information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience working on high-profile complex issues, with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership skills to motivate and empower teams, and build capability.
