**Role Overview**

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) projects and contribute to the development of robust and trustworthy Large Language Models.

The successful candidate will be part of the Edinburgh NLP Group, a world-leading research group in NLP, and collaborate with Dr. Pasquale Minervini on projects involving improving the explainability and generalisation properties of Large Language Models. The researcher will also have the opportunity to work on various interdisciplinary projects that integrate Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Job Description:
  • Project Focus: Improving the robustness and trustworthiness of Large Language Models when solving complex reasoning tasks, while enhancing their explainability and generalisation properties.
  • Work Environment: The School of Informatics is one of the largest research centres in Computer Science in Europe and is ranked #1 in the UK in terms of research power. The Edinburgh NLP Group is consistently ranked among the world's leading research groups in NLP.

Requirements:

  • PhD (or near completion) in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • Experience and evidence of effective independent research work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated quality of research performance, as evidenced by high-quality publications in top-tier ML and NLP venues.
  • Strong programming skills; experience with Python NLP and deep learning libraries.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing, in English.

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience).
