Position Summary

The Ullswater Inn is recruiting a skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our facilities team. This role involves carrying out daily maintenance tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our pub, and providing exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate will have experience in basic plumbing, electrical work, and joinery, as well as a flexible approach to problem-solving. We offer a competitive salary of £29,000 per annum, plus benefits including extra paid holiday, 50% off food, and staff accommodation available.

Responsibilities
  • Daily Tasks:
  • Conduct daily boiler checks and electrical inspections
  • Perform routine maintenance on interior and exterior light bulbs
  • Clean and inspect fire alarm control panels
  • Check and clean external grease traps
  • Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers
  • Ensure fire doors and closers are functioning correctly
  • Roof, gutter, drain, handrail, step, and walkway inspections
  • External housekeeping duties, including table, chair, ashtray cleaning, and broken glass removal
  • Garden maintenance, including lawn mowing, pruning, and border tidying
  • Planned Maintenance:
  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Grouting and silicone sealing
  • Contractor liaison and engagement
Requirements
  • Basic plumbing skills (repairing and replacing taps, showers, waste pipes, traps, and leaking pipework)
  • Basic electrical skills (replacing sockets, switches, lighting equipment, tuning TVs, and fault finding)
  • Basic joinery skills (replacing handles, hinges, door locks, door closers, and ensuring doors and windows operate smoothly)
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations (ladder checks, emergency light tests, fire alarm tests)
  • Weekly utility readings (gas, electric, water)
