Radar Systems Engineer

Our client, a pioneering company in the cross-sector technology industry, is seeking a talented Radar Systems Engineer to join their dynamic team. In this permanent role, you will play a crucial part in developing innovative radar systems, regularly updating existing designs, and driving new product advancements. With a focus on maximizing the performance and characteristics of radar technologies, this position requires a knowledgeable and mathematically adept individual.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with the Senior Engineering team to develop new radar products and drive innovation in the field.
  2. Specify hardware architecture, RF performance characteristics, waveform design, and DSP algorithms to ensure optimal system performance.
  3. Owning and extending existing radar models to incorporate new features and capabilities, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  4. Conducting radar trials analysis and preparing antenna calibration data to ensure accurate system performance.
  5. Prototyping and validating algorithms before implementation to ensure efficient and effective system operation.
  6. Analysing trials data to verify and characterise the performance of existing and prototype radars, identifying areas for improvement.
  7. Participating in field trials in the UK and occasionally overseas to ensure system performance in real-world environments.
  8. Contributing to technical leadership and team communications to drive collaboration and innovation.
Requirements:
  1. Mathematics, engineering, or physics degree with a strong foundation in mathematical and analytical skills.
  2. Experience in radar system design or satellite communication system design, with a deep understanding of the radar equation and its influence on radar architecture, waveform design, and signal processing methods.
  3. Knowledge of multi-function radar design and/or phased-array antenna design, with a strong understanding of real-world radio effects such as multipath, weather, and clutter.
  4. Proficiency in Matlab, Mathcad, or similar software, with experience in electromagnetic (EM) simulation and microwave waveguide structures.
Preferred Requirements:
  1. Familiarity with RF Pro or Keysight SystemVue, with experience in patent preparation and active involvement in the radar industry through seminars or generating papers.
