We are seeking an experienced and motivated Safeguarding Specialist to join our team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our safeguarding team, you will play a vital role in promoting excellent safeguarding practice and ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on adult and child safeguarding, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Assist staff in undertaking their safeguarding roles, with a focus on staff development and empowerment.
- Contribute to national and local initiatives to protect children and adults from harm, ensuring that best practices are disseminated across the Trust.
- Work with staff to design and develop processes that enable them to protect individuals at risk.
- Assist the Trust in contributing to safeguarding reviews, writing reports, and implementing recommendations.
- Lead and produce written reports as part of Section 42 safeguarding enquiries and other investigations.
- Identify shortfalls in practice that may leave individuals at risk of abuse, neglect, or harm.
- Collaborate with staff, patients, and families at risk, as well as external agencies, to form partnerships and working arrangements that facilitate effective safeguarding practices.
- Develop and deliver safeguarding training and guidance sessions to staff.
- Lead safeguarding-related audits.
- Represent the Trust at Local Safeguarding Partnership subgroups and safeguarding meetings.
- Undertake project work under the direction of the Safeguarding Specialist Operational Lead or Head of Safeguarding.
- Facilitate good standards of record keeping, report writing, and statement writing.
- Liaise with the Trust's Legal Team and Devon County Council Legal Services Team to ensure compliance with legal orders and provide support to staff.
- Provide safeguarding and management support to the Safeguarding Specialists and supervision to Health IDVA and the administrative team.
- Work with the Safeguarding Specialist Operational Lead, Head of Safeguarding, or Assistant Director of Safeguarding, Employee Resolution and Support Team, and Associate Directors of Care Groups to manage allegations of abuse within the Trust.
- Liaise with key external safeguarding partners in Devon.
- Attend safeguarding strategy meetings and case conferences as requested by the Safeguarding Specialist Operational Lead.
- Emphasize and promote the importance of good discharge planning and follow-up for patients discharged from our care, particularly where there have been safeguarding concerns.
- Work closely with Named Safeguarding Nurses/Professionals in other health organizations to share best practices and strengthen opportunities for development and networking within the field of safeguarding.
- Work with the Head of Safeguarding/Safeguarding Specialist Operational Lead to develop and maintain the Trust's safeguarding policies and ensure adherence.
- Provide clinical supervision to staff as required, ensuring effective case management is in place for complex situations with safeguarding concerns.
The safeguarding service is an exceptional team providing specialist advice and operational support to staff across the Royal Devon in the Acute, Community, and Specialist Services. We represent the Trust and work proactively with the Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Adult and Children Partnerships.
