Job Summary:

Polaris Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at Hurdley Bank School. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in enhancing the learning experience of our pupils with special educational and learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils in various settings, including classrooms, groups, and social situations, to promote their academic and personal growth.
  • Accompany pupils on school visits and outings, fostering a sense of community and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the SENDCo to develop and implement social skills and behavior programs, ensuring pupils receive the support they need to thrive.
  • Participate in the development, delivery, and monitoring of individual programs, working closely with teaching staff to ensure effective support.
  • Assist in resolving issues that may cause anxiety or emotional responses in our pupils, providing a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in collaborative planning with teaching staff to optimize support.
  • Support the delivery of the Key Stage and school's curriculum map, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.
  • Work as part of a flexible and supportive team to further the ethos of the school, attending weekly staff meetings and relevant INSET/CPD events.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in a similar environment or appropriate qualifications.
  • Candidates should hold academic qualifications to at least GCSE standard, professional qualifications to at least NVQ level 3, or demonstrate competency through proven experience in a similar role.
  • Basic first aid knowledge and the ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Good time management skills, flexibility, and the ability to use time effectively to meet the demands of the post.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to operate as a member of a busy team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in various contexts, including pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training to enhance personal development and benefit the school.
  • Knowledge of child development and an understanding of different learning styles would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of ACES or childhood trauma would be beneficial, with training available to the successful candidate.
  • Due to the location, all applicants must have access to a vehicle and hold a full driving license.
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position.
