About the Role

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Microbiologist to join our team. As a key member of our Microbiology department, you will play a vital role in providing expert advice and guidance on infection prevention and control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with clinicians, hospital staff, and general practitioners to diagnose, manage, and prevent infections.
  • Collaborate with existing Consultant Microbiologists to provide positive blood culture ward rounds, antimicrobial stewardship rounds, and other infection-related activities.
  • Ensure professional standards are maintained in the laboratory, working closely with Senior Biomedical Scientists.
  • Authorise and interpret laboratory results, and provide infection prevention and control advice to the Trust and wider community.
  • Participate in the planning of pathology services, audit activities, and training of junior medical staff.

Person Specification

  • Higher Level training in Clinical Microbiology, including infection prevention, and a CCT in Microbiology or dual CCT in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.
  • GMC registration and FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team, maintain good relations with contacts, and demonstrate audit and implementation of change following audit.
