About the Role

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Microbiologist to join our team. As a key member of our Microbiology department, you will play a crucial role in providing expert advice and guidance on infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with clinicians, hospital staff, and general practitioners to diagnose, manage, and prevent infections in collaboration with existing Consultant Microbiologists.
  • Authorise and interpret laboratory results, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Lead to maintain professional standards in the laboratory, adhering to UKAS accreditation requirements.
  • Provide infection prevention and control advice to RWT, WHT, and the wider community, assisting in the implementation of infection prevention policies.
  • Participate in the planning of pathology services, collaborating with other Consultant Pathologists within BCPS.
  • Contribute to audit activities, training junior medical staff, and participating in the Trust's Undergraduate Medical Training Programme.

Person Specification

  • Higher Level training in Clinical Microbiology, including infection prevention, with a CCT in Microbiology or a dual CCT in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.
  • GMC registration and FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team, maintaining good relations with contacts.
  • Experience in audit and implementing change following audit.
