Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians in the development and implementation of launch and flight procedures, including nominal and off-nominal scenarios.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers and technicians to create and implement standards and processes used to launch and operate launch vehicles.
  • Manage, organize, and mentor the team, as well as other employees involved in launch operations.
  • Develop and implement launch and flight procedures, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including mission control, systems engineering, and spaceport operations, to ensure seamless integration and effective communication.
  • Ensure all safety concerns and needs are addressed prior to launch, and develop and implement safety protocols as necessary.
  • Manage and mitigate risks associated with launch and flight operations, including unplanned events and emergencies.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure all staff maintain the correct competencies and training required for launch, in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Manage external sub-contractors, suppliers, and agencies involved in launch or pre-launch activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce launch operations scope and turn-around times, improving overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in live-fire testing, rocket/missile launches, propulsion testing, or safety-critical operations, with hands-on experience.
  • Minimum of a BSc degree in engineering or physics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety-critical operations of complex systems, including an understanding of the typical roles and functions of sub-contractors, agencies, and regulating bodies involved in launch and space flight activities.
  • Experience with ground support equipment and test installations, including fluid control systems, mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and communication systems.
  • Experience with training and simulations as a means of establishing operational readiness, and extensive experience of leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams engaged in high-consequence operations.
