About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Cyber Analyst to join our Information Security team at The Open University UK. As a key member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in protecting our digital assets and ensuring the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of our information systems.

As a Cyber Analyst, you'll work closely with our existing team to configure, monitor, and respond to security events and incidents. You'll also be responsible for coordinating with our Vulnerability Management, Architecture, Governance, Risk & Compliance, and Training and Awareness colleagues to ensure a comprehensive approach to security.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Senior Cyber Analyst during severe cyber incidents, coordinating with Incident Management and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Assisting with threat hunts, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing as required.
  • Contributing to and presenting to various stakeholders about emerging threats to upskill and raise awareness across business units.
  • Working closely with Information Rights (Data Protection) and Information Technology (IT) colleagues to align breach and incident management into Cyber Incident Response Plans.
  • Configuring security systems and applications.
  • Reducing cyber risk to tolerable levels as defined by the CISO by evidencing the completion of activities mapped to cyber risks.
  • Attention to detail to spot trends in data.
  • Good understanding of security concepts and networking fundamentals.
  • An understanding of Firewalls, XDR/EDR technologies, SIEMs/SOAR, Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance features.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage your own work without supervision.
  • Demonstratable contribution to security-focused communities or participation in security-focused events, such as CTFs, forums.
  • A-Levels, Diploma, or Degree in a technology-related field.
  • Demonstratable experience of providing or receiving mentorship within security or technology-related fields.
  • Experience within Scripting and Query languages such as PowerShell and KQL.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Security Tooling.
