About the Role

The SHEF Manager will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe execution of work activities across VIVO Defence's Built Estate Contracts in the Southwest and Central regions of England. This role will focus on Health, Safety, Environment, and Fire, supporting Line Management in implementing the Safety Management System.

Key Responsibilities

This role will involve:
  • Running project activities as agreed within the SHEF activities
  • Delivering general health and safety training as required
  • Assisting the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor in their duties
  • Conducting scheduled and unscheduled inspections of work activities across a large geographical area
  • Taking appropriate action where any H&S management is failing
  • Writing and/or contributing to the contract and business monthly H&S report
  • Supporting operational managers in facilitating liaison
  • Attending coordination/cooperation meetings with clients

Supporting Sustainability and Zero Harm Initiatives

This role will also involve supporting Sustainability initiatives across all contracts and VIVO Zero Harm initiatives across all contracts.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • NEBOSH Diploma or Construction/General Certificate or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Environmental Diploma/Certificate
  • P405 - Asbestos Management preferred
  • Fire Risk Assessment accredited qualification (IOSH/BSC etc.)
  • Membership of Association for Project Safety (APS) or Equivalent Organisation
  • Chartered Member of IOSH, or working towards
  • Recognised Auditor
  • Recognised Train the Trainer
  • Recognised Accident investigation techniques

Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate will have:
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of H&S management in construction
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current and relevant H&S legislation
  • Presentation skills, including delivery of training
  • Data Analysis and Report Writing
  • A good level of skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Designing and leading H&S Campaigns
  • Environmental Management Qualification
  • Experience in working on MOD Establishments
  • Experience in operating to the BS 45001 standard
  • Experience in chairing meetings

Location and Working Arrangements

This role will be based in High Wycombe, with flexible working arrangements and the option for home working where practical. Travel within the UK will be required to support the teams and activities of the business.
