Job Description

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP is a global law firm seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Lawyer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in regulatory law, particularly in the water sector.

About the Role

This role involves acting as a subject matter expert on regulatory matters related to the water and waste sectors. Key responsibilities include liaising with experts in environmental permitting, planning, property, competition law, construction, procurement, and commercial areas. You will manage your own caseload, reporting to the client and the Head of Legal Service Delivery on progress. Additionally, you will support other team members, manage lawyers within the O&R team, and provide guidance on case conduct.

Requirements

  • A qualified solicitor with at least 8 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) within a regulated sector, preferably in the water and sewage sector.
  • Experience working in an in-house environment would be beneficial.
  • Detailed knowledge of legislation, licences, codes of practice, rules, guidance, and case law governing regulated utility companies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small, busy team.
  • Organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Capacity to learn complex business dynamics, understand clients, customers, and regulatory regimes.
  • Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating key legal documents.
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
