Job Overview

This is a 6-month contract position with potential extensions until the end of 2027. The successful candidate will work on site in Lincoln, overseeing fire safety improvements and heating/hot water system enhancements at HMP Lincoln.

Key Responsibilities

The Clerk of Works will act as the on-site liaison between the Client Representative, consultants, contractor, and prison staff to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to prison operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending site for an average of 40 hours per week, in alignment with programmed site activities.
  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are in place, with all stakeholders informed and committed.
  • Liaising with the prison's Works Department to resolve any project-related concerns.
Quality Assurance and Oversight

The Clerk of Works will maintain a detailed site diary to record daily activities, incidents, and discussions, including photographs where relevant.

They will conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and good building practices.

Review and Inspections

The Clerk of Works will monitor workmanship and construction against drawings, specifications, and relevant standards.

They will witness pressure tests and commissioning activities for heating, fire safety, and other systems.

Documentation and Reporting

The Clerk of Works will provide weekly brief reports to the Client Representative, summarizing daily site activities and key inspections, health and safety issues, general progress and observations, design issues and mitigation.

Monthly reports will cover overall site progress against the program, quality of workmanship and compliance with specifications, health and safety observations, identified delays or issues, design concerns and resolutions.

Snagging and Handover

The Clerk of Works will conduct snagging inspections and ensure all defects are rectified before handover.

They will produce a Practical Completion Report detailing unresolved issues or defects to the Client Representative.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is £35-£40 per hour (Umbrella rate).
