About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist to join our Children's Division at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. As a Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for providing specialist assessment and treatment to children with varying needs in community settings, special schools, clinics, and the Child Development Centre.

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide specialist assessment for children aged 0-18, who may have complex presentations, to determine relevant clinical pictures and specific treatments indicated, working as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To be responsible for the appropriate physiotherapy treatment of an identified group of children, with a wide variety of conditions, including children with severe physical and/or cognitive impairment, some of whom may have complex social and psychological needs.
  • To be skilled in communicating with parents and carers, from all cultural and social backgrounds, who may be distressed as a result of initial diagnosis. To act as a frontline source of highly complex information regarding diagnosis and the ongoing management of a child with tact and empathy.
  • To make complex decisions and appropriate judgments as a frontline practitioner to interpret situations that may require child protection action.
  • To work to locally and nationally agreed standards set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists.
  • To demonstrate a sound understanding of risk management and to undertake risk assessments involved in the manual handling of the children during physiotherapy management.

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is part of North Central London integrated care system, working closely with partners and other disciplines within the Child Development Team and Primary Care Team to provide services across the borough. We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.

Requirements

  • Graduate diploma or BSc Physiotherapy HCPC registration CSP membership.
  • Minimum of 2 years postgraduate physiotherapy experience, including a broad experience across different areas of physiotherapy practice at graduate level MSK, neurology, acute/clinic/community settings.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and previous working within the NHS in the UK.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, and tact, and a strong desire and passion to work within a Children's Physiotherapy Team and develop skills in Paediatric Physiotherapy.
