About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental and Sustainability Engineer to join our team at LANXESS UK in Widnes. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for ensuring the site's environmental performance and sustainability goals are met.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate guidelines.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to identify potential environmental risks and hazards, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for environmental performance and sustainability, and assist in identifying annual environmental objectives and targets.
  • Support regulatory returns, including UKETS, Climate Change Levy, and ESOS, through data collection, site assessments, and environmental monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain the ISO 14001 Management System, ensuring all policies and procedures are up-to-date and compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Complete internal auditing of environmental management systems and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support and improve the site's loss of containment program, ensuring environmental incidents are investigated and documented thoroughly.
  • Gain an understanding of the site's secondary and tertiary containment systems, evaluating compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the implementation of ISO 50001 Energy Management, including energy modeling and life cycle assessment tools.
  • Support projects and initiatives to reduce the company's scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in line with corporate goals.
About You

We are looking for an Environmental and Sustainability Engineer with a degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field. You will have previous work experience in a similar field and be familiar with environmental management and environmental permit requirements.

Key skills include excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
