About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Planning Officer to join our Development Management Service team at Wiltshire Council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage strategic and complex planning projects, ensuring alignment with Wiltshire's place-shaping objectives.
  • Facilitate community engagement and collaborate with stakeholders to promote appropriate development.
  • Handle the most challenging and strategic planning applications, requiring creative and innovative solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced officers, reviewing and approving their work to ensure it meets the Council's Local Plan, Scheme of Delegation, and national planning policy.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in planning and development management, with a strong understanding of local and national planning policies.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders and community groups.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to meeting deadlines.
