Job Summary

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a leading international think tank providing independent and objective information and analysis on military, geopolitical, and geo-economic developments that could lead to conflict.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Manager to join our Executive Office team in London. The successful candidate will provide extensive support to the IISS Research Board, including:

  • Collating and distributing Board papers, taking comprehensive minutes, and tracking Research Board activities.
  • Coordinating research proposal submissions and actions with operational and research teams.
  • Tracking research proposals, submissions, and associated funding status on our CRM system.
  • Providing administrative and Dialogue support to the Managing Director, Executive Office.
  • Managing IISS Advisory Council Meetings, including event logistics, speaker liaison, budget management, and acting as a point of contact for Board members.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Manager will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-level administrative support to the Director-General and the Executive Office team.
  • Coordinating across directorates and research programmes to ensure seamless delivery of research projects.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders, including research teams and operational staff.
  • Managing and maintaining accurate records on our CRM system.
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of IISS Advisory Council Meetings.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and CRM systems.
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in a think tank or research institution.
