About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join our Families Forward team. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work with families with complex, chronic needs, focusing on children and young people aged 5 to 18 years. Your primary focus will be to build relationships with families over time, taking an empathetic, practical, creative, and proactive approach to providing support.

Working collaboratively with social work locality teams and other professionals, you will provide a highly flexible and responsive service to families at risk of family breakdown. Your role will involve being the lead professional/case holder, managing and prioritizing a complex workload, and responding to urgent situations as they arise.

We are committed to improving family relationships and reducing risks, ultimately preventing children entering care. As a local authority, we are reviewing and developing our offer to adolescents, and this role will be part of that offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with families over time, taking an empathetic, practical, creative, and proactive approach to providing support.
  • Work collaboratively with social work locality teams and other professionals to provide a highly flexible and responsive service to families at risk of family breakdown.
  • Manage and prioritize a complex workload, responding to urgent situations as they arise.
  • Develop and implement effective support plans to improve family relationships and reduce risks.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in social work, family therapy, substance use, mental health, counselling, or systemic practice.
  • Significant experience of working with people who have been exposed to trauma, abuse, substance misuse, or mental health issues.
  • Sound knowledge of children's safeguarding and ability to manage and prioritize a complex workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with considerable emotional resilience.
