About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team in Leeds, working as part of our Renewal's Connect team. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting a wide variety of Professional and Management Risks and Charity policies, working closely with other departments to deliver an exceptional service to our brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and maintain a good level of underwriting, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels.
  • Underwrite risks in accordance with own personal level of underwriting authority.
  • Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritizing renewals and mid-term adjustments and referrals.
  • Ensure incoming calls to the team are answered promptly and professionally.
  • Attend underwriting meetings as required to provide insight into developments, trends, and feedback on market conditions.
  • Manage renewal cases, working with the broker to secure renewal and upsell/cross-sell additional covers.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Technical teams in Leeds and the wider business.
  • Assist the team and wider business with ad hoc projects.
Requirements
  • Proven relevant insurance experience and demonstrable technical skills.
  • Background and experience in our classes of business is desirable, but not necessary.
  • Excellent written, spoken communication, and numerical skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable IT skills, including MS Office.
  • Be studying for or be willing to study for CII qualifications (fully funded by Markel).
  • Knowledge of Acturis is preferred, but not a requirement.
