Job Summary

The Northgate Medical Practice is seeking a skilled and dedicated Practice Nurse to join our primary healthcare team. As a Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality medical services to our patients, working closely with our GPs and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care, including management of diabetic patients, respiratory management, and wound care.
  • Conduct new patient medicals, urinalysis, and other medical procedures as required.
  • Provide travel clinic services, including vaccinations and travel advice.
  • Conduct ECGs, peak flow readings, and spirometry tests as needed.
  • Perform venepuncture and other medical procedures as required.
  • Manage hypertension and other chronic conditions, working closely with our GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide routine immunizations and childhood immunizations as required.
  • Request pathology tests, including urine culture and swabs, as needed.
  • Participate in administrative systems and maintain accurate records.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.
  • Undertake home visits as needed.

Confidentiality:

The Practice Nurse will have access to confidential information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare workers. They will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

Health and Safety:

The Practice Nurse will be responsible for implementing and leading on health and safety and infection control procedures, including the correct and safe management of specimens, personal protective equipment, and hand hygiene. They will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment, identifying and reporting health and safety hazards, and participating in infection control training.

Personal and Professional Development:

The Practice Nurse will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice, including an annual individual performance review, and will take responsibility for maintaining a record of their own personal and professional development.

Quality:

The Practice Nurse will strive to maintain quality within the practice, alerting other team members to issues of quality and risk, assessing their own performance and taking accountability for their actions, and contributing to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on their own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team's performance.

Communication:

The Practice Nurse will recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to communicate effectively with other team members, patients, and carers, recognizing people's needs for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly.
