Vacancy for Head of Archival Practice and Data Curation

The Digital Preservation Coalition is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our archival practice and data curation efforts.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of archival practice and data curation at a time of digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead a team of experts to deliver intellectual control over our holdings and shape a comprehensive data workflow, curation, and catalogue enhancement service.
  2. Develop and implement business processes and governance strategies to ensure the quality, enhancement, and management of our content and intellectual services.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to influence and lead beyond the immediate team through the sharing of records, standards, archival policy, metadata, and PRA compliance expertise.
  4. Stay up-to-date with evolving technologies for creating, managing, representing, and reusing archival metadata, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement in our services.
  5. Maintain a thorough understanding of content sensitivity and information security, ensuring that our services are delivered in a secure and responsible manner.

Requirements

  1. Degree and archival qualification (MA) or equivalent experience, with an excellent understanding of the theoretical and practical challenges surrounding archival description in a digital context.
  2. A credible leader and experienced line manager, able to inspire a team of senior archivists and their reporting staff, managing resources effectively, and motivating the team to deliver high-quality services.
  3. A domain expert and strong advocate for archives, able to influence and lead beyond the immediate team through the sharing of records, standards, archival policy, metadata, and PRA compliance expertise.
  4. Excellent grasp of evolving technologies for creating, managing, representing, and reusing archival metadata, with an ability to see and manage information as data.
  5. Thorough understanding of content sensitivity and information security.
