Job Opportunity:

About the Role:

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineering Industrial Placement candidate to join our Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. As a Systems Engineering Industrial Placement, you will be part of a dynamic team working alongside leading engineers to develop innovative solutions for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the design and development of new support solutions and services, including those for transformational RAF and Army programmes and Team Tempest.
  2. Participate in hands-on testing and repair of in-service equipment, including associated test equipment, across helicopters and fast jets.
  3. Apply digital tools and methodologies to understand how our equipment performs when used by customers and how effective our support solutions are.

What You'll Do:

  1. Use technical expertise to solve problems, generate ideas, and be proactive within the team.
  2. Develop practical skills in engineering design, development, and verification for complex solutions, understanding key processes and technologies.
  3. Develop and apply academic knowledge to undertake various activities across the engineering lifecycle, delivering to agreed performance targets, including cost and schedule.
  4. Work closely with engineers across multiple disciplines.
  5. Visualise and understand customer problems.
  6. Capture and manage customer requirements.
  7. Data analysis, modelling, visualisation, and dashboard development.
  8. Complete tasks to a high standard and in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures.
  9. Take an active role in engineering process improvement.

Requirements:

  1. Ongoing undergraduate or postgraduate course in a relevant discipline, including Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM subject.
  2. Passion for engineering.
  3. Self-motivation with an aptitude for problem-solving and an ability to drive difficult issues to conclusion.
  4. Ability to work with minimum direction or supervision on complex tasks.
  5. Ability to apply big-picture thinking to look at problems as a whole.
  6. Strong collaboration and inter-personal skills, and the ability to interact with subject matter experts regarding a range of technical and operational topics.
  7. Ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver high-quality work.
  8. Confidence and ability to challenge and respond to technical or process issues.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience of creating documentation and presentations.

What We Offer:

As a Systems Engineering Industrial Placement, you will receive coaching and support from your team, including our dedicated CS3 Early Careers Manager, to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals. There will also be opportunities to get involved in STEM activities with local schools and universities.

This role can be based at either our Luton or Edinburgh site. It is likely to include travel, both within the UK and possibly also abroad, to provide in-person support to our customers. Leonardo also operates a Custom (hybrid) working model that allows our employees to split their time between attending the workplace and working remotely.
