About the Role

As a Technician with Network Rail, you will play a vital role in maintaining the rail network, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of passengers and freight. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, inspect, and repair the track network to ensure the railway is safe and efficient.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, often in demanding manual work environments.
  • Develop and implement safe systems of work, and challenge any potential risks to safety.
  • Lead and motivate a team to deliver work safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
Requirements
  • Leadership skills: able to lead, motivate, and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
  • Effective communication skills: able to deliver clear instructions to the team and other colleagues.
  • Technical skills: knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal techniques in the discipline of track.
  • Safety skills: consistently role model safe behaviours, arrange and implement safe systems of work, and challenge if you think a situation is unsafe.
  • Problem-solving skills: persistent in finding safe and effective solutions.
  • Willingness to learn: consistently develop skills and competencies relevant to the discipline of track.
  • Relevant qualification: ideally hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2 linked to the discipline of track, or equivalent level of relevant experience.
