About the Role:

This is a challenging yet rewarding position that requires a strong commitment to providing high-quality care and support to vulnerable young people. As a Senior Practitioner, you will be responsible for leading a team of Residential Practitioners, implementing care plans, conducting risk assessments, and devising support and health plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Residential Practitioner team: Provide guidance, support, and supervision to ensure the team is working effectively to meet the needs of children and young people.
  • Implement care plans: Develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each child or young person.
  • Conduct risk assessments: Identify and assess potential risks to the safety and well-being of children and young people, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Devising support and health plans: Develop and implement plans to support the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of children and young people.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment: Ensure that the living and learning environment is safe, secure, and conducive to the well-being of children and young people.
  • Work with professionals and communities: Collaborate with other professionals and community agencies to ensure that children and young people receive comprehensive support and services.
  • Nurture children's ambitions: Support children and young people in achieving their goals and aspirations, and help them to develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
  • Manage complex behavior: Develop strategies to manage complex and challenging behavior, and provide support and guidance to children and young people who are experiencing difficulties.
  • Take on day-to-day management responsibilities: Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Residential Practitioner team, including staff deployment and supervision.
  • Lead in the planning and delivery of opportunities: Develop and implement plans to provide opportunities for children and young people to learn, grow, and develop.
  • Supervise and appraise staff: Provide regular supervision and appraisal to ensure that staff are performing to the best of their ability, and provide support and guidance to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Administer medication and maintain records: Administer medication as required, and maintain accurate records in compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

Requirements:

  • NVQ/QCF Diploma Level 3 in Residential Child Care: Hold a recognized qualification in Residential Child Care, or be willing to complete one within a specified timeframe.
  • Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services Level 5: Hold a recognized qualification in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services, or be willing to complete one within a specified timeframe.
  • Ability to travel and work flexibly: Be able to travel and work flexibly, including on a rota basis and outside standard hours.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills: Possess excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, young people, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in maintaining manual and digital records: Be proficient in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, both manually and digitally.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding principles: Have a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and safeguarding principles, and be able to apply this knowledge in practice.
  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable adults: Have experience working with young people or vulnerable adults, with a focus on supporting and empowering them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
  • Supervisory experience and commitment to team development: Possess supervisory experience and a commitment to team development, with a focus on supporting and developing staff to achieve their full potential.
