Gastroenterology Specialist with a focus on Clinical Nutrition

About the Role

This is a new consultant gastroenterology expansion post which is supported by the investment in the Hinckley Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The CDC will operate 7 days a week and will offer an extensive set of diagnostic services which includes endoscopy to meet the healthcare needs of the local population of Hinckley and its surroundings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
  • Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
  • Promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff.
  • Be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
  • Teaching, research and administration.
  • Proactively develop the service.
  • Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • Participate in a rostered in-reach Monday to Friday.
  • General gastroenterology outpatient clinics within UHL +/- UHL in the Community.
  • Endoscopy sessions across UHL +/- UHL in the Community.
  • Opportunity for flexible working including weekend endoscopy sessions.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • MB BS or Equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.

Experience/Clinical Skills

  • JAG accredited for upper and lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan.

Audit/Quality Improvement

  • Effective participation in and a commitment to clinical audit.

Research

  • Understanding and interest in research.

Teaching

  • Experience of and a commitment to training/teaching undergraduate and postgraduates.
