Making a Difference in Students' Lives as a SEN Teaching Assistant

Dunbar Education invites applications from enthusiastic and empathetic individuals to fill the role of Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant. This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of students with special educational needs, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

About the Job:

  • The successful candidate will work collaboratively with experienced teachers and SEN professionals to create a tailored learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of students.
  • This role involves providing individualized support and guidance to students, promoting their academic, social, and emotional well-being.

Key Duties:

  • Support students in their academic and personal growth through one-to-one and small group assistance.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to design and implement lessons that meet the unique requirements of students with Autism.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging social, emotional, and academic development among students.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies that align with the school's policies and promote a safe and respectful learning space.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, reporting back to teaching staff as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Education, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • A strong passion for working with children with SEN, particularly Autism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Previous experience in an SEN environment is advantageous but not essential.
