About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced External Affairs Manager to join our team at the National Trust. As a key member of the Director-General's Office, you will play a critical role in supporting the Director-General and Chair in their communication and stakeholder engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for senior leader communications and stakeholder engagement activity.
  • Write high-profile speeches and copy for events, editorials, and publications.
  • Commission and produce briefings for stakeholder engagements and advise on public positioning, statements, and responses to events of the day.
  • Build strong relationships with Executive Directors and their senior leadership teams.
  • Maintain external networks in relevant sectors and form influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Significant expertise in developing and implementing strategic plans for senior leader communications and stakeholder engagement activity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of writing speeches and copy for senior leaders.
  • An excellent understanding of the political environment in which the Trust operates.
  • An understanding of issues affecting heritage, nature, and conservation.
  • High-level interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of colleagues and partners.
  • Senior stakeholder engagement/communications experience and leadership within a large and complex organisation.
