Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Psychologist to join our well-established Neuropsychology Service. As an Assistant Psychologist, you will play a vital role in supporting the professional psychological care of patients in our Trust by providing psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
Main Duties
- Assist in clinical-related administration, conduct of audits, data quality work, teaching, and project work.
- Conduct protocol-based assessments of clients using psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews.
- Prepare written and verbal information from psychological assessments for presentation at multidisciplinary meetings.
- Assist in the delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, and to support families, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
- Work with other staff in the application of psychological interventions.
- Assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients in the service, across all settings where care takes place.
- Organise and present psycho-educational classes.
- Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications, and Training
- Single honours degree in Psychology (upper second class or higher).
Experience and Knowledge
- Paid experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Experience of conducting literature searches and reviews.
Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge of developmental processes from childhood to old age.
- Understanding the needs of individuals with psychological difficulties.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and skills to a healthcare setting.
- Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality.
- High-level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
Aptitude and Personal Qualities
- Ability to work independently, reliably, and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Ability to cope with and maintain professionalism in potentially upsetting circumstances around serious illness or impending death of a patient or bereavement issues.
- Ability to show initiative when required and a willingness to share ideas with others.
- Ability to recognise limits of own expertise and to seek advice/support when necessary.
