Youth Custody Service Registered Psychologists: Forensic or Clinical

Psychology Services for HMPPS Youth Custody Service (YCS) are currently recruiting Registered Forensic and/or Clinical Psychologists to be based in HMYOI Feltham, HMYOI Werrington, HMYOI Wetherby, and Oakhill Secure Training Centre. YCS accommodates all boys and girls under 18 years in custody across England and Wales in various settings. Successful applicants will be part of an established team committed to working with children in custody, which includes Forensic, Clinical, Counselling, Occupational, and Educational Psychologists. Full training and support will be provided, plus ongoing opportunities for CPD.

Job Overview

This is a non-operational offender facing job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer authoritative professional advice on targets and objectives for relevant offenders.
  • Provide professional opinions for reports (e.g., lifer reports, parole reports).
  • Develop strategy and plans of activity for relevant programme assessments.
  • Provide consultancy support to colleagues in relation to psychology services and outcomes.
  • Conduct relevant research including data gathering and analysis.
  • Provide supervision to trainee forensic psychology staff.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and support to trainee psychologists and other staff.
  • Lead on risk assessment and resulting risk management.
  • Participate in risk assessments of offenders to determine their risk of harm to self and others.
  • Deliver and oversee the quality of complex treatment programmes.
  • Act as a negotiation adviser where competence has been demonstrated.
  • Maintain own Continued Professional Development (CPD) and registration with HCPC.

Requirements

  • Possess a professional background in Psychology.
  • Experience in providing clinical supervision.
  • Completed relevant training in effective models of treatment and best practice.

Eligibility

Qualified forensic or clinical psychologists with HCPC registration or in the process of receiving HCPC registration.

Working Arrangements

The Ministry of Justice offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business needs allow. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s).
