An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Multidisciplinary Team on the Macarthur Centre PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit).

You will join a fast paced MDT environment to work in the least restrictive way to support adult male service users presenting with acute and urgent care mental health needs.

Psychology has been well embedded into the foundations of the PICU, and as the Assistant Psychologist you will be supported by the Principal Clinical Psychologist to develop your skills in an inpatient environment in psychological assessments, formulation, care planning and brief psychological interventions.

There are also opportunities to work with the team to deliver reflective practice and support staff with their development and training needs.

We have strong links with local universities across the clinical, forensic and counselling courses. Relationships have been established with other organisations with connections into a national psychology group for Trauma Interventions in Acute Settings.

**Main duties of the job**

To support the Principal Clinical Psychologist in the delivery of specialist psychological assessments and interventions to clients with complex mental health conditions which may include challenging behaviours

To support the Principal Clinical Psychologist in the provision of psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other staff in the MDT

In line with the banding of the post and its service context, and under the supervision of the Principal Clinical Psychologist to be involved in:

- Multi-disciplinary training and development
- Service audit and development
- Service evaluation and research
- Bring an understanding of psychological change processes to own role within MDT

**Qualifications**

**Essential criteria**
- Have at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Psychology that allows Graduate Basis for Chartered (GBC) membership with the BPS

**Desirable criteria**
- Registration with BPS
- Evidence of ongoing study and development
- Further qualifications relevant to the post

**Experience**

**Essential criteria**
- Must have experience of working as an assistant psychologist or equivalent

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience of working with vulnerable people
- Experience of research and audit
- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working

**Knowledge**

**Essential criteria**
- Awareness of risk assessment and risk management relevant to the role
- Knowledge of audit and research methodology
- Awareness of social inclusion agenda
- Awareness of evidence base relevant to the role

**SkillsEssential criteria**
- Communicate verbally and in writing effectively, to a wide range of people
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Able to engage with vulnerable people and work effectively in challenging circumstances
- Respects and has awareness of the advantages of joint working with other experienced professionals in a multidisciplinary setting.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £25,147.00-£27,596.00 per year
