Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Health Care Support Worker to join our Community Learning Disability Health Team in Barnsley. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care and support to individuals with learning disabilities and their families.

Main Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will provide psychological and physical care to a defined group of people, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • You will work as part of a healthcare team to deliver planned care programs, promoting the recovery and rehabilitation potential of service users.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships with service users, adopting a polite, positive, and empathetic approach.
  • Assess, problem-solve, and report any issues that may impact service user care, exercising initiative and judgment within your level of competence.
  • Contribute to the care planning process, understanding the principles underlying care planning and implementing care within established policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the management and support of individuals who exhibit challenging behavior, recognizing and responding to changes in their presentation.
  • Attend to service users' personal care needs, prioritizing tasks and exercising flexibility to meet their needs.
Key Result Areas
  • Care Provision: Deliver excellent levels of customer service, assessing, problem-solving, or reporting any issues that may impact service user care.
  • Teamwork: Work effectively, professionally, and independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating initiative, decision-making, and prioritization skills.
  • Service User Safety: Ensure service user safety, maintaining a non-judgmental and empathetic manner, and adhering to Trust Values.
  • Communication: Demonstrate excellent communication skills, using observation skills to identify potential service user, environmental, or other risks and acting appropriately.
Requirements
  • GCSE A-D or grade 3-9 in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship level 3 or equivalent, such as RQF NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Or, level 2 qualification with the ability to demonstrate competencies at level 3.
  • Care Certificate or required to achieve within 12 weeks of commencement.
Desirable
  • Level 4 units in Health & Social Care.
  • Experience of the speciality area.
  • Willingness to undertake further study towards level 4 qualification.
Training
  • Mandatory training requirements and subsequent refresher training relevant to the area.
  • Job development and training.
  • Excellent knowledge of service user safety, including Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression, Moving and Handling, etc.
Personal Attributes
  • Responsive attitude and approach.
  • Dress appropriately for the environment.
  • A Current driving license and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for any applicants who are unable to drive due to a disability).
