Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and clinically skilled nurse to join our existing team of Urology Clinical Nurse Specialists at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in a part time post just under 37.

The post holder will need to have experience within Urology pathways and will need to demonstrate extensive leadership skills.

The post holder will provide expert clinical and supportive care for patients diagnosed with Urology cancers and work with the Local Multidisciplinary Team and Regional Specialist Multidisciplinary Teams in supporting patients throughout their diagnostic and treatment pathway, providing individualised, compassionate and informed patient care.

This is an exciting time for the service with the development of Nurse led Transperineal Biopsy which the post holder will play an integral part in the implementation.

Main duties of the job
  1. To be responsible for providing appropriate specialist advice, support and education to patients throughout the Urology Cancer pathways, from diagnosis to treatment end.
  2. To play a pivotal role within the Urology Cancer team providing: specialist information; high quality care; assessment, advice and support for those patients on a suspected Urology cancer pathway having investigative procedures and eventual diagnosis and treatment of an Urology cancer. This will extend to their families / carers and other Health Care Professionals both internal and external to the Trust, which will promote a seamless service within a multi-professional framework. They will provide guidance, supervision and training to peers and junior members of staff.
  3. To ensure the quality of care to patients is maximised by establishing strong communication links with specialist multidisciplinary teams at Wirral and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
  • RGN, Educated to degree level, evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Transperineal biopsy training, Advanced Communication skills training, Clinical Examinations skills
Experience
  • Qualified for at least 2 years, Current experience in Urology cancer, experience of implementing change
Skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and relatives in a variety of settings.
  • Able to analyse data and provide written reports.
  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area.
  • Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • In conjunction with other clinical colleagues, develop and plan specialised care pathways for patients.
  • Able to perform advanced clinical skills within the Trust Policy framework.
