About the Role

We are seeking an experienced MI or BI leader to join our team at National Grid ESO. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing the design, development, and implementation of data visualization and reporting solutions using Power BI and the Power Platform.

As the MI Manager, you will play a crucial role in transforming data into actionable insights, supporting business strategies, and enhancing operational efficiency. You will work closely with our Data, Digital, and Technology (DD&T) stakeholders to iteratively improve our dashboards and reports.

Becoming the National Energy System Operator

In 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working to create an organization the energy system and its users need.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports to provide real-time insights and analytics.
  • Oversee the integration of data sources, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Utilize Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents) to automate workflows and improve business processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective BI solutions.
  • Train and mentor team members on Power BI and Power Platform best practices.
  • Monitor performance metrics and KPIs to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in Power BI and Power Platform technologies.

About You

  • Experience in project management and leading a team of BI professionals.
  • Significant experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or similar.
  • Proven expertise in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and data modelling.
  • Experience with Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents).
  • Strong understanding of database management systems (SQL, Azure SQL, etc.).
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets and extract meaningful insights.
  • Pragmatic and courageous to find a better way.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level in complex organizations, demonstrating strong verbal and written and interpersonal skills.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – 68,000 – dependent on experience and capability.
