Job Title: General Counsel

Job Summary:

eNL Legal Recruitment is seeking an experienced General Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to our clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and Advise: Provide expert legal guidance on all matters related to governance, commercial, contracting, research, employment, and student affairs.
• Support the University Council: Offer legal advice and support to the University Council, University Secretary, and senior executives on significant issues and business matters.
• Lead the Legal Services Team: Manage and inspire the in-house Legal Services Team to provide effective and efficient legal support across various areas of law.
• Supervise and Manage: Supervise members of the Legal Services Team and ensure compliance with relevant Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Council requirements.
• Procure and Manage External Services: Procure and manage external legal services when required, ensuring quality and value are achieved.
• Manage Legal Budget and Resources: Oversee the management of the legal budget and resources within your responsibility.
• Technical Expertise: Possess outstanding technical legal skills and experience in commercial, corporate, and intellectual property law, with a good understanding of data protection law.
• Communication and Relationship Building: Develop excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to listen and understand the needs of university stakeholders and communicate complex legal matters to a range of audiences.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Charity Law and Regulatory Matters: Possess an understanding of charity law and broad expertise across regulatory matters that may impact a university, such as student complaints and discipline and charitable donations.
