The University of Nottingham is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join the Prediction and Optimisation of Solar Energy Systems Lab (POSES lab). The lab is focused on developing new technologies to improve the incorporation of solar farms into future sustainable power systems.

About the PhD Programme

The PhD programme offers a fully funded, four-year studentship starting in October 2024. The programme is designed to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to training researchers in new technologies that can significantly improve the incorporation of solar farms into future sustainable power systems.

Research Themes

The PhD programme offers four research themes:

  • Theme 1: Improving intra-hour solar forecasting accuracy
  • Theme 2: Enhancing PV system modelling
  • Theme 3: Coordinated use of different energy sources for enhanced electricity system management
  • Theme 4: Understanding community acceptance of large-scale solar farms
What We Offer

  • Training in solar energy technologies, experimental measurement and evaluation techniques, and tools for modelling and predicting PV generation

Requirements

We are looking for graduates with a strong degree in maths, physics, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or social science disciplines. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and a passion for research in solar energy and zero carbon technologies.
