PhD Researcher in Miniaturized Robotics

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Nottingham. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative project with the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) to develop a novel miniaturized robotic end-effector for welding and repairing tasks in confined and challenging spaces.
About the ProjectThe project aims to design, manufacture, and test a miniaturized robotic end-effector that can perform welding and repairing tasks in confined spaces. The successful candidate will work closely with industrial partners to develop precision mechatronics systems and algorithms, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in the field of robotics and mechatronics.
About the RoleWe are looking for a candidate with a strong background in mechatronics, robotics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a first or upper second class degree, excellent analytical and numerical skills, and experience with relevant packages such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, and ROS. The successful candidate will be based at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology, and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
What We OfferThe scholarship on offer comprises a tax-free EPSRC Stipend Level (£18,622 a year), tuition fees paid, and a generous study package. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on a novel mechatronics system with strong links to industrial applications and key skills and knowledge in preparation for a high-impact, high-technology research or industrial career.
