Role Overview
The Senior Merchandiser plays a pivotal role in maximizing profit and cash sales through efficient stock management, potentializing sales, and minimizing markdown. This position reports to the Head of Merchandising and is responsible for planning and trading each range to ensure profits are potentialized within agreed company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Review historical performance and determine future product strategy in collaboration with the Product team.
- Present in commercial sign-off and trade meetings to senior management, providing regular performance reviews across all business channels.
- Review competitor activity with the Buyer to challenge future product strategy and plan internet and retail requirements.
- Determine stock targets, considering stock reduction requirements, and plan buffer stocks where necessary.
- Plan pricing strategy, working closely with the Product Team to secure overall margin targets.
- Provide regular intake planning details to enable operations to plan resources effectively.
- Manage WSSI to plan and trade the department in line with KPI budgets.
Trading and Commercial Awareness
- Evaluate Monday management packs for reconciliation, including stock and sales forecasting validation.
- Establish an ordering critical path, reflecting catalogue schedules and seasonal patterns.
- Potentialize peak trading periods and develop well-rounded plans to protect critical trading times.
- Plan promotional activity to maintain stock levels and potentialize sales.
- Understand and trade the Concessions and Wholesale side of the business.
Critical Skills and Experience
- Strong Excel skills, ideally at an advanced level.
- Highly numerate with good presentation and communication skills.
- Commercially aware, with a strong interest in the fashion retail industry.
- Able to work independently and within a small team, managing a heavy workload and meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience in a head office Merchandising environment is essential.
