About the Role

This is a developmental post with an introductory Band 7 Psychologist role to progress into a Band 8a Clinical Forensic Counselling Psychologist on completion of competencies. The current post is based within the Integrated Mental Health Teams in Kent Prisons.

Main Responsibilities
  • Clinical and Client Care: Provide high-quality clinical services to clients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Team and Service Clinical Functioning: Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring effective team functioning and service delivery.
  • Policy and Service Development: Participate in the development and review of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring they are evidence-based and aligned with Trust objectives.
  • Management and Supervision: Provide supervision and guidance to junior staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality services.
  • Teaching and Training: Deliver training and education to staff, patients, and carers, promoting best practice and evidence-based interventions.
  • Record-Keeping and Information Governance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records, adhering to Trust policies and procedures on information governance.
  • Research and Development: Contribute to research and development activities, ensuring the Trust remains at the forefront of clinical practice and service delivery.
  • Maintaining Professional Standards and Continuing Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development, ensuring compliance with professional standards and registration requirements.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Travel to clinical venues, training activities, and meetings as required, and work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapy/mental health/social welfare profession or equivalent, with demonstrable practice in this field.
  • Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice, with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Registration with a professional body or regulatory body, as appropriate to the psychological therapy discipline.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with the full range of clinical severity, under supervision.
  • Ability to administer, score, and interpret psychometric and neuropsychological tests, with appropriate training and supervision.
  • Well-developed skills in communication, both verbally and in writing, to convey complex information to clients, families, carers, and professional colleagues.
