About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Park Manager to join our team at the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for directing personnel, operations, and expenditures in the operation of state parks, ensuring visitor expectations are met and the park's natural, historical, and cultural resources are protected for future generations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct personnel, operations, and expenditures in the operation of state parks.
  • Ensure department, division, and park support through civic activities, media relations, and interaction with other governmental officers and/or agencies.
  • Manage compliance with regulatory agencies for health and safety and provide intra-agency resources for the advancement of the Agency's mission.
Requirements
  • Skills in providing effective interpersonal communications and leading individuals, small groups, and work units in accomplishing programmatic functions.
  • Knowledge of business management, budget planning, and revenue generation.
  • The ability to coordinate work programs effectively and efficiently on a seasonal schedule.
  • Skills in custodial, building, facility, grounds, and utility system maintenance, diagnosing breakdowns and disruptions in buildings, facilities, grounds, and systems that may impact public safety and/or customer service.
  • Knowledge of practices relating to the conservation, preservation, and restoration of natural, cultural, historical, or recreational resources.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and public relations in a park and/or natural, cultural, or recreational operational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of capital development planning in a park setting.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing park policies and rules that directly impact visitors and resources.
  • Advanced experience in managing partnerships with Friends groups, Foundations, or similar organizations.
  • Knowledge and experience with specialized park facility operations.
