Accounts Assistant Job Description

Nexus ERP is seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our team. As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our financial records.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Financial Record-Keeping: Ensure daily accounting records are correct and balances are reconciled in both client and business accounts.
  • Monetary Chasing: Chase monies owed, including tenancy rental arrears and outstanding balances on landlord accounts.
  • Client Queries: Deal with client account queries in an informative and professional manner, accurately recording information in Expert Agent.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure client income information provided to HMRC is accurate and compliant, including notification of non-resident landlords.
  • Staff Payments: Ensure clients and contractors are paid correctly.
  • Financial Reporting: Aid in the Making Tax Digital report, analyzing data and ensuring business accounts are up to date and accurate across branches for tax recording and business strategies.
  • Accounting Reports: Produce accounts reports such as profit and loss, reconciling items, and outstanding invoices/bills, working closely with company accountants to prepare accounts for quarterly VAT returns and End of Year accounts.
  • Staff Administration: Ensure staff personal details and pay are recorded correctly for salary payments.
  • Department Management: Be accountable for your own tasks and the general day-to-day running of the department, implementing new processes and strategies for continual improvement.
Requirements:
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Accurate data handling, with attention to detail when recording all figures to ensure the smooth running and correct record-making of the business.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical skills to answer queries from across the company, with regular occasions requiring the ability to be analytical of data held on account.
  • Communication: Good communication skills, with discussions with clients regarding their money, ensuring colleagues understand information given to them from the accounts department.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office, internet, and email systems, with an advantage in understanding Xero and being quick to learn new systems.
  • Time Management: Ability to work independently with good time management, prioritizing daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, and managing additional tasks requested by the team.
  • Pressure Management: Positive attitude to complete tasks in a timely manner, especially during month-end/beginning procedures.
  • Experience: Ideally, a year's experience in an accounts role, with an understanding of how money moves through the business and the records required to remain compliant.
