Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join our team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a forward-thinking clinically orientated team, contributing to the development of our lipid clinical service, weight management, and laboratory service.

The successful candidate will provide clinical guidance and scientific advice to hospital clinicians and general practitioners on the selection, performance, and interpretation of clinically relevant tests. They will also work closely with the Biochemistry and Toxicology service, sharing authorising of laboratory results and other laboratory-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Offering clinical guidance and scientific advice to hospital clinicians and general practitioners;
  • Working with the Biochemistry and Toxicology service;
  • Shared authorising of laboratory results and other laboratory-related tasks;
  • On call role providing clinical oversight to the Biochemistry and Toxicology service;
  • Direct clinical care in Lipid clinics;
  • Opportunity to be involved in weight management and metabolic and bariatric surgical patients;
About the Team

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics. We focus on innovation and quality, and our team is passionate about supporting our staff and patients.

Person Specification
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists or Equivalent;
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to obtain UK CCT;
  • Clinical training and experience in the relevant Subspecialty;
  • Full GMC Registration;
  • Experience of Audit Management;
  • Experience of teaching to undergraduates;
  • Experience of Supervising StR's;
  • Formal training in Clinical Supervision / train the trainers;
