Ocean Career: UK Hydrographic Office GIS Specialist (Bathymetry)

We are seeking a skilled GIS Analyst to join our Bathymetric team at the UK Hydrographic Office. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the provision of high-quality data for the world's commercial shipping companies and the Royal Navy.

The Bathymetric team is a dynamic and collaborative environment where you will work with various organizations, including survey contractors, overseas Governments, and the Royal Navy. Our team is committed to developing our people and investing in their growth and development.

The purpose of this role is to validate, database, and archive bathymetric data, ensuring that it meets set standards before being incorporated into CARIS BathyDataBASE and passed to other Operations and Production teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Validating incoming acoustic and remotely collected bathymetric datasets and producing outputs for archiving and databasing.
  • Undertaking analysis and completing routine resurvey analysis reports.
  • Processing and validating surveys using CARIS HIPs and SIPs, CARIS BASE Editor, and Qimera to improve data quality.
  • Uploading survey data to the CARIS BathyDataBASE for use in UKHO products and services.
  • Archiving survey data from CARIS HIPs & SIPs onto Apollo Servers and storing media in accordance with archiving requirements.

We are looking for a team player who can deliver at pace to meet fluid requirements and provide outcomes for customers. Attention to detail and experience in using relevant Bathy processing software to manage large datasets are essential for this role.
