ROLE DESCRIPTION

A key role within the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team of Channel 4. This team is responsible for producing, reporting, monitoring, amending and comparative analysis (financial, non-financial and KPI's) of all the consolidated Channel 4 businesses forward-looking projections (forecasts, budgets, strategic plans).

The FP&A team works closely in support of the Head of Commercial Finance and Finance Business Partners/SFM's in completing all FP&A related requirements (forecasts, budgets, strategic plans and growth initiatives), leading on analysis and performance overviews to influence and guide the expectations of the overall Channel 4 business.

The FP&A team will work closely with all parties (EMB business executives, HoD's, the HoCF, FBP's, all FP&A team members and the management accounting teams) to compile, manage, report and monitor the FY forward-looking projections including P&L, Cash, KPI's and related executive dashboards. This team will also use and develop the financial system and visualisation tools and reports to promote and improve understanding of the Channel 4 operating performance.

Specifically, the Senior Analyst is a key role within the FP&A central reporting team, reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager (SFM) of Group FP&A, and a core part of the Centralised FP&A team which delivers against the role purpose noted above.

It is the central SFM-Group FP&A and team of analysts who directly support the corporate and service departments of Channel 4, acting as their business partner on all FY related projections and analysis (forecasts, budgets, plans etc)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Support
  • Work closely with SFM-Group FP&A and the FP&A Managers and Finance Business Partners on all areas of the consolidated functions and/or full Channel 4 business
  • Work directly with the Channel 4 corporate and/or service department heads or executives as required
  • Work closely with Management Account teams (AM's, MA's and AMA's as relevant and appropriate) on all deliverables of that function, specifically the periodic actuals results (financial and non-financial) and performance and how these compared to expectations (forecasts, budgets, prior year and plans) and resulting extrapolations to be included into the FY consolidations
  • Produce and deliver analysis and narratives to enable all the FP&A stakeholders to understand performance and key drivers etc and how these impact and are reflected within forecasts, budgets and strategic plans
  • Ensure the SFM is supported in the briefing of the CFO and Head of Commercial Finance
  • Support the close working relationships with the management accounts team to aid understanding in YTD performance, variances drivers and provide support and understanding for the integrity of the data that supports forecast and budget processes.
FP&A Information and Reporting
  • Support the preparation, review and presentation of rolling monthly and/or quarterly reforecasts
  • Support the preparation, review and presentation of the annual budget process
  • Support the preparation, review and presentation of the strategic plan process
  • All these processes will include some elements of:Working with the Management Accounts teams to understand the monthly and YTD reports and how these fit into the FY revisionsProducing, and supporting the production of, analysis and comparative reports that explain performance and performance variancesComparative reporting will be against FY budgets, forecasts, prior year and strategic plans; in the instance of a growth initiative it will be against the approved business planProduction, and supporting the production of, narrative to explain performance and key takeaways from performance analysisProduce, and support the production of, all Finance reporting requirements and deliverables as relates to the FY forward-looking projections of the business in accordance with the Finance timetable and reporting calendarProduce and support the production of specific reports and/or analysis for use by the HoCF or FBP's as requiredAd hoc reporting such as executive dashboards or Headcount related reportsProject and/or specific initiative analysis and reporting as required
  • Support the preparation of standard FP&A reporting and analysis packs
  • Attend meetings with the HoCF, SFM, FBP's and/or FP&A managers as appropriate and/or required
  • Support the development of core reporting systems and/or visualisation tools used
Team Support
  • Manage the FP&A Analyst(s) and/or apprentices as required
  • Support the FP&A activities of the FP&A managers as required
Other
  • Other responsibilities as required by the SFM of Group FP&A
  • Other responsibilities as required by the Head of Commercial Finance
  • Supporting the Finance Business partners on bespoke and/or adhoc analysis and activities as required
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • A qualified accountant preferred with 1-3 yrs relevant experience of working in a consolidating FP&A function OR a qualified by experience analyst with 3-5 years experience working within a relevant consolidating group FP&A function
  • Experience of directly supporting operational business executives in formulating, monitoring and managing their budgets
  • Experience of compiling, managing and delivering FY forecasts, budgets and strategic plans
  • Preferred experience of operating within a matrix reporting organisation
  • Experience of recognised financial information systems, preferably Oracle and/or Workday, as well the use of BI visualisation tools
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Advanced Excel Skills and intermediate Word / Powerpoint
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated team player
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexible and able to work to tight deadlines
